Question #5

What are the risks in running the hardy-proposed eeepc kernel?

Answer:

Not much, except "hardy-proposed" houses the latest "testing" kernel.

Technically, the hardy-proposed eeepc kernel is very close to the "proposed" generic Ubuntu kernel. It could be dropped onto a desktop or another notebook and should work just like the generic kernel would. However, because Ubuntu's hardy-proposed kernel is largely for testing purposes only, it shouldn't necessarially be used for production systems.

Linking into the hardy-proposed repository basically means that you're willing to test out code that may not be 100% stable. Packages in this repository are also updated more often as features are added and bugs are fixed.

In case you have a problem with the hardy-proposed eeepc kernel, it's always a good idea to validate your problem against the stable hardy eeepc and generic kernels. Doing this can rule out whether or not your problem is local to the proposed eeepc custom kernel, or if its an issue with the generic generic (upstream) Ubuntu kernel.
